I Still Pinch Myself!

I Still Pinch Myself!

After being named the National Youth of the Year for Boys & Girls Clubs of America, I got to ride over to the White House with Denzel Washington! That was enough by itself if I do say so myself! Once we got through security, I waited patiently with butterflies in my stomach for some odd reason! AND THEN.... President Obama invited us into the Oval Office! It was crazy!

President Obama knew the entire group by our names and greeted me with "Hi Mona!" I was shocked and VERY impressed! We then spoke for a while and he gave us Presidential Seal M&Ms and a pocket constitution with his autograph engraved on it in gold! Yes, I still have both of these items!

After we were done speaking, he took us over to meet Vice President Joe Biden as well! It was a 2 for 1 deal, which was unexpected for sure!

I have to tell you, I was pretty much speechless standing there in the Oval Office! I was 17 years old then and just 4 years before that, I was living in a homeless shelter! I felt like I was in a dream and still to this day, I feel like I need to pinch myself to wake up! I never would have thought that I would be recognized by the President of the United States in the Oval Office and I know my peers would have doubted me if I ever told them that I would one day have that happen! HOWEVER, that day I realized that the sky is the limit!

It may sound cliche, but EVERY SINGLE THING is possible! If you can believe it and you can see it, then you can achieve it! TRUST ME! I'm a living testimony of what hard work, ambition, and positive people in your circle can do for you!

Love,

Mona Dixon
